Ritter Weekly News

5/7/2020

Dear Parents and Students,

Once again, I want to thank everyone for the continued support you are providing your child and our Ritter Jets.  Please continue working with your child’s teacher and reach out to me with questions or concerns. We are all here for you and your child.  Learning packets are available to be picked up Monday - Friday from 8 am-8 pm with new work available on Tuesday or per the guidelines of your child’s classroom teacher.

Thank you for all the contact that has been made with your child's teacher for Teacher Appreciation Week.  In observance of Teacher Appreciation Day, teachers will have a well-deserved day off on Friday, May 8th. As a result, you will not hear from your child's teacher until Monday, May 11th.

I also wanted to wish everyone a Happy Mother’s Day.  Mother’s Day is a chance for children everywhere to acknowledge their mother’s love and sacrifices.  As a mother, I, like you, have many hopes and dreams for my children.  Fulfilling lives, joy, happiness, love, and be loved, healthy minds and bodies, success in school and career would probably be on the list for most of us. If I were to ask you, what are your hopes and dreams for your child, I am pretty certain I would get similar responses.  I hope all the Ritter families know that we hold those same hopes and dreams for all our Ritter students.

Thank you for all you do here at Ritter and for letting us work with your wonderful children.  It is a pleasure to see them grow each and every year.

Dear Parents and Students,

I hope the kids are enjoying the snow.  Snow in April is fairly common for Michigan, it is notorious for weather mood-swings.  Hopefully, the kids are able to get outside and make the last snowman before the nice weather.

Please remember that from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, April 21st, the first pick-up for your child’s work packet will begin.  Bins are located in the entrance/vestibule. The bins are labeled with your child’s teacher’s name. Your child will have an envelope in that bin that will include their packet of work for the week.  The “new” work will be available for pick-up on Tuesdays of each week and expected to be completed and returned to the bins by the following Tuesday of each week. If you are unable to come to the school to pick-up/drop-off work, please call/email to make other arrangements. You can notify me of your need by using the link below: Ritterwork@airportschools.com

The following classroom codes are for Specials and Intervention teachers.  Students need to be actively participating in Specials classes. They will receive a pass/fail (Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory) on the final report card in these classes as well as their grade-level classrooms.

Dear Ritter Parents and Students,

I hope this email finds you well.  Although Governor Gretchen Whitmer closed school facilities in Michigan for the remainder of this school year as a result of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, we are still continuing to work together with the shared goal in mind of providing an education, growth, and progress for all students at Ritter Elementary.  I will not be able to provide specific details on what this looks like at this time. However, Airport Community Schools administration, teachers, and the Monroe County Intermediate School District will be working diligently on the development of a plan advancing forward. At this time your child should continue with the educational opportunities that are being provided by your child’s classroom teacher and specials.

Usually during Spring Break families traditionally spend time with families and loved ones.  This year families are going to need to be creative. Video chatting is wonderful, and there are a million ways to do it — What’s App, Zoom, FaceTime, Facebook Portal, Skype, and Google Hangout.  ParentMap Magazine had an alternative suggestion to download the Marco Polo app and exchange video postcards with your friends and family.

In my family, we play games when the family comes together.  Games help connect us in real life, and in virtual life as well. But it doesn’t just have to be video games. ParentMap suggested tapping friends and family members to play chess online (try Chess by Post), Scrabble (Words With Friends), and many other games. Certain board games also lend themselves well to video conferencing, such as Guess Who and Battleship. Just make sure both parties have a copy of the game.

Important Dates:

Spring Break: Monday, April 6th-Friday, April 10th

Yearbook Orders: Deadline April 13th-$15 online at www.schoolpictures.com

The following Google Classroom codes are for the Ritter Art teacher:

  • Ms. Dorman: Your art teacher would like you to join her Google Classroom. Here are the codes to use: 4th Grade: ov2saor, 3rd grade: gnagix4, 2nd grade: ttlkr7r, 1st grade: lre7ykl, and KG/Y5 grades: u7invyc

Finally, I will be posting morning announcements on the Ritter Facebook page at 9:00 AM each morning.  The first one was posted last Friday, April 3rd. After Spring Break, look for the morning announcements each day.  This is how we start every day at Ritter and it would be great if parents continue this practice at home. I hope everyone is doing well. I miss seeing everyone at school each day. The partnership between parents and teachers in supporting Ritter students has been incredible. Many parents have found activities that they have shared out with teachers.  Thank you for your support and let’s continue to work together to see that all of our students are successful.

I know that most students have been in contact with the teachers through Google Classroom and Zoom.  If you have not been able to connect please email me, dspears@airportschools.com
